Homemade Applesauce

A great topping for pancakes, or a simple dessert on its own.

Ingredients:

6 Medium size sweet apples (Macs, Gala)

2 medium size tarter apples (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious)

1/3 c. water

4 tsp. maple syrup or honey

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

2 tsp. lemon juice (to taste)

Directions:

  1. Peal, core & chop apples and place in large saucepan.  Add water,              syrup (or honey) and cinnamon.  Simmer until apples are tender,                    15-20 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat. Mash for chunky applesauce, or purée in food    processor.
  3. Stir in lemon juice and add more syrup and/or cinnamon to taste
  4. Serve warm or chilled.
