How do you know if you have Lyme disease? This is a good question but not an easy one to answer. Certainly if you have the trademark bulls-eye rash, you might want to see your Doctor for confirmation.
Unfortunately, not all symptoms are that specific. You could have a fever, headache, muscle or joint pain, stiff neck, weak memory, poor concentration, irritability, depression, or fatigue to name a few. These signs are quite similar to those which may appear with other health disorders like the flu, rheumatoid arthritis, MS or Lupus. Oh and by the way, not everyone gets the rash. So you can see obtaining a diagnosis of Lyme could be a little tricky. Thank goodness I don’t diagnose disease!
Let me explain why these might be your symptoms. The Borrelia species like to hang out in certain areas of your body. Collagen seems to be the common factor here. When they are in the joints you may experience stiffness, swelling or pain. Sounds like arthritis right? If they are in the aqueous humor of the eye you might have floaters or a feeling of pressure. You may even have disturbed vision. They could decide to live in your ear(s) causing buzzing, ringing, vertigo or motion sickness.
When they have located themselves into the meninges of your brain you could suffer with inflammation throughout areas of your nervous system. These might give you headaches, weak memory, concentration issues, irritability and more. If they’re living in your heart you could have palpitations, chest pain or shortness of breath. Finally, in the skin you may experience the rash upon infection and it could be accompanied with a fever or other flu-like symptoms.
If you are suffering with any or all of the above listed symptoms you might want to rule out some of the possibilities with your Doctor. As for me, I will work with you from a natural perspective. I use herbs, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients to help you get back into balance.
