This cucumber lime electrolyte refresher is an excellent alternative to ‘off the shelf’ sports drink (which though very good, also contain added sugar). This electrolyte refresher is easy to make and have on hand for your post workout hydration.
What are electrolytes?
Electrolytes are essential minerals, such as sodium, calcium, potassium, magnesium & phosphorus, that are vital to many key bodily functions. Perspiring, on a hot day or when exercising, can cause your body to lose electrolytes. It’s important to replenish them before your body becomes deficient.
Why is this cucumber lime electrolyte refresher good4you?
Cucumbers are low in calories, high in potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus, and are packed full of antioxidants. When combined with coconut water which also is high in potassium and low in calories, this drink offers an excellent healthy option to replenish what your body needs after a good workout or on a hot summer day.
Ingredients
- ½ cucumber
- 2 limes peeled
- 1 ½ cups coconut water
Preparation
Using a juicer, juice the cucumber and lime. Add this juice to the coconut water. Serve cold or over ice.
Note: If you don’t have a juicer, just add the cucumber slices to the coconut water and refrigerate for a couple of hours, then add ¼ cup lime juice (freshly squeezed).
